One of seven detained football officials has been extradited to the United States where he faces corruption charges, the Swiss Federal Office of Justice (FOJ) said on Thursday.
The FOJ said the man, who was not identified, was on Wednesday handed over to US police officers. The official had agreed to his extradition last week.
US authorities had made formal requests on July 1 to extradite the seven active or former FIFA officials who were detained in Zurich on May 27. The move came after the suspects had initially opposed extradition.
The group of mostly Latin American officials were arrested on suspicion that they took more than 100 million dollars of bribes in return for the award of media, marketing and sponsoring rights for football tournaments in the United States and Latin America.
