Japan coach Javier Aguirre has said his side is aiming to defeat Jordan in the final match of Asian Cup Group D on Tuesday - despite his team needing only a draw to top the group.

"We will go to win the game, we will not do calculations," Aguirre told a media conference Monday. We will respect Jordan but we will go to win and not for a draw.

"We will have a good fight with Jordan who have had two very good games, especially against Palestine when they showed good speed and agility."

Reigning champions Japan have defeated both Palestine and Iraq so far and will win the group with a draw against Jordan. However, should they lose while Iraq beat Palestine in the other match, their progression to the quarter-finals could come under threat on goal difference.

The Mexican Aguirre also stated he was pleased to be working with Japan and gaining an insight into the game in Asia.

"Football is generally the same everywhere," he said. "This tournament has been very good for me to watch how Asian teams play.

"I am very happy working in Japan, we've been together for only a short time, but we are going the right way to achieving our objectives."
