Sheikh Ahmed Al Fahd Al Sabah, the head of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and a Kuwaiti royal, has denied involvement in a bribery scandal in which a FIFA official admitted guilt, media reports said on Saturday.

Ahmed, who is also the president of the Association of National Olympic Committees, said he strongly denies "any wrongdoing", according to an OCA statement cited by the media.

Ahmed is also a member of FIFA's ruling council and the International Olympic Committee.

Former FIFA audit and compliance committee member Richard Lai, who also heads Guam's football association, pleaded guilty at a US court last week over a 1-million-dollar bribery case.

World football's governing body FIFA ordered a 90-day ban on Lai on Friday.

A transcript of Lai's court hearing had him listing co-conspirators, describing one as having a "high-ranking" role at OCA and the Kuwait soccer federation.

"Sheikh Ahmed is very surprised by such allegations and strongly denies any wrongdoing," the OCA statement was quoted as saying.

OCA has not responded to dpa requests for comment.

In the reported statement, Ahmed vowed to "vigorously defend his integrity and reputation and that of any organization that he represents in any relevant legal review."

Ahmed previously held several ministerial posts in oil-rich Kuwait.
