The Express announced early Monday morning that Manchester United are believed to be in very advanced talks with Everton over a January move for Leighton Baines as the soon to be 29-year-old seeks to reunite with former manager David Moyes at Old Trafford.
Everton rebuffed multiple attempts by United to sign the player in the Summer transfer window, but now are believed willing to allow him to leave for a fee in the range of £15 million.
New Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is believed to be looking at either Chelsea's 24-year-old left back Ryan Bertrand or young Billy Jones of West Bromwich Albion as a January signing to replace Baines.
While United would be getting a player with great class and skill, Baines age could be a concern as he is not much younger than existing first choice Patrice Evra and there would still be the issue of maintaining a player for the future at left back.
The arrival of Baines could see both Alexander Buttner and Fabio da Silva look to take their leave as their place as second and third choice would be pushed back even further.
Everton meanwhile could welcome the high fee as they could add another great profit to their year's business and have the ability to keep rebuilding with fresh talent and youth under Martinez while so far vastly impressing in the league this campaign.
