Manchester United are reportedly ready to make a record offer for Luke Shaw of Southampton. The teenager has been a Manchester United target for the last few months. After battling with the likes of Chelsea, United are the only club still left in negotiations with Southampton. Negotiations have been taking a while due to Southampton’s reluctance to get the most value out of their prized asset.
As Shaw prepares to make his World Cup debut against Costa Rica, his transfer fee appears to have inflated even further. United fans have been left in shock after becoming aware of several reports suggesting that United have made an offer of more than £30 million. The 18-year-old was also rumoured to have been offered a contract in excess of £100,000 per week. Apart from the inflated transfer fees, Shaw has the potential to be a great signing for United.
One of the reasons for the transfer delays has been Southampton’s reluctance to discuss transfers without a permanent manager. Former Valencia boss Ronald Koeman was recently appointed as the replacement for Mauricio Pochettino. He seems to have given the green light towards the club selling Shaw.
Southampton are also in discussions with Liverpool over the transfer of Adam Lallana. However, their demands of £30 million for the 26-year-old could result in Liverpool looking elsewhere.
Apart from Shaw, United have also been looking at players like Toni Kroos and Thomas Müller. They are believed to have activated the release clause of Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera. The 24-year-old will cost the Premier League club £28 million and it will be one that puts the future of Marouane Fellaini in doubt.
The lengthy negotiations for Shaw led to United extending Patrice Evra’s stay by another 12 months. The Frenchman was expected to leave this summer.
