This was announced in a Press Conference held at the committee premises yesterday (Tuesday), where BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar and organising committee chairman Hasan Abdullatif revealed updates on this year’s event and detailed programme of the activities.
The 2016 Olympic Day, which aims to promote the Olympic values, will feature a variety of sports activities, including five walkathon races to be organized all over Bahrain.
The first walkathon is scheduled for Saturday and is organized by the Northern Governorate starting at 5pm from Inside the Budaiya Coast Park. The Capital Governorate will then host the second walkathon three days later near Fatma Kanoo Mosque and the Bahrain Map roundabout from 5pm.
The following walkathon will take place on May 21 from Riffa Views walkway at the Southern Governorate. The fourth and last walkathon is scheduled for May 24 from Dohat Arad in Muharraq, while the fifth will take place on the concluding day of the Olympic Day at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.
Other sets of activities will include a volleyball event on May 16 at the Bahrain Sports for Disabilities Federation Hall, located at Isa Sports City in Riffa, an ex-football players tournament on May 18 at Khalifa Sports City Hall in Isa Town, and a swimming championship on May 23 at the Bahrain Swimming Association premises in Isa Town.
The remaining events will be presented in cooperation with the sports federations of swimming, sports for disabilities, cycling, motorsports, martial arts and air sports.
They include motor shows and contests, and entertaining motor race, a running race, a martial arts show, in addition to kata and poomsae taekwondo shows, all due to be held on May 27.
A special show by a group of parachutists is also scheduled to take place on the final day, to be followed by the honoring ceremony at 6pm, also at t the Bahrain International Circuit.
