Southampton started the season on a hot streak, but injuries and tough competition have seen the Saints knocked back down to earth from their initial high with three straight losses to Arsenal, Chelsea and Aston Villa.
Injuries to star players Morgan Schneiderlin, Artur Boruc, Gaston Ramirez, Victor Wantama and Nathan Clyne have come as a blow in the last few weeks exposing that the side still is lacking depth when stretched due to unfortunate events.
Manchester City on the other hand are recovering from some early injury worries, but despite still having several injured key players such as David Silva, Matija Nastasic and Stevan Jovetic, the Citizens are on a three match winning streak.
City have scored just over twice as many goals this season as Southampton with the club putting 40 past their opponents so far and the Saints only 18.
The visitors will be looking for a second straight victory on the road since January of this year as they have relied heavily on their home form to earn the majority of their points.
Southampton have conceded at least two goals in each of their last three matches which sees them in danger of allowing City to jump all over them from the start.
Saints XI: Gazzaniga; Chambers, Lovren, Fonte, Shaw; Ward-Prowse, Cork; Davis, Lallana, Rodriguez; Lambert.
City XI: Pantilimon; Zabaleta, Demichelis, Kompany, Clichy; Navas, Toure, Fernandinho, Nasri; Aguero; Negredo.
