The United Arab Emirates shocked reigning champions Japan in their pvious Asian Cup match and coach Mahdi Ali promised the team would do everything possible to upset hosts Australia in Tuesday's semi-final.

"We will fight and keep going and not let it go very easy," Ali told a news conference Monday. "We are very confident in our team and our players that you will see on the field.

"It will be a tough game for both teams, but we will do our best to achieve our goal."

The UAE had not made it beyond the group stage of an Asian Cup since 1996 and few gave them a chance against a Japan team full of European-based stars.

In contrast to pvious attacking performances, an organized defensive display and a little luck earned a 1-1 draw and the subsequent penalty shoot-out was won.

But in Ali Mabkhout they have a superb striker who has bagged nine goals in his last eight internationals and is currently joint-top of the Asian Cup scoring chart.

And Ali dismissed rumours that creative midfielder Omar Abdulrahman was carrying an injury. Abdulrahman scored a delightful chipped penalty in the shoot-out against Japan and has been linked with a move to Europe.

Ali earlier said he would welcome his star moving continent but again insisted the current focus was on the team's achievements at the Asian Cup.

"When we came here we announced our goal was to achieve the semi-final and our first goal has been achieved," he said. "Now the second part is that we aim to reach the final and we will work very hard to reach our level and reach the final."
