Van Persie frustrated with teammates after Man Utd defeat

Robin van Persie was at the centre of a new crisis at Manchester United after he hit out at his teammates for getting in his way during the 2-0 defeat against Olympiakos. The Dutchman had United's only shot on target throughout the 90 minutes, but he argues that his teammates often prevented him from taking advantage of a good situation by getting in his way.

Such comments are only likely to increase the pressure on the club, who have been dropping to a new low with every week.

United have already been ousted from two cup competitions – FA Cup and League Cup. They are almost certainly out of the race to finish in the top four. This left them with the Champions League as the sole hope in a very disappointing campaign.

Now, they are on the brink of going out at the last 16 stage for a second consecutive season. After the Olympiakos defeat, van Persie reportedly said to Sky Sports:

"It was quite difficult because my team-mates are often in the area where I want to play. That's why I have to change my tactics. Unfortunately, they are often in my area.

"It was much too slow and we only had one shot on target in the whole match against Olympiakos, which is far too little. Everyone is very disappointed."

These comments also increase speculation about a possible summer exit for van Persie, who has already been linked with a return to Arsenal. The striker is reportedly not happy with the training methods or tactics of Moyes, who has now become the favourite to get the sack.

A run of just three wins since the turn of the year is likely to test even the patience of a club like Manchester United. Despite talk of United being confident of a comeback in the second leg, these comments from the 30-year-old is unlikely to increase dressing room harmony, which is already at a new low.

United take on West Brom at the Hawthorns this weekend and it will be followed by a home match against Liverpool.
