Thuraya has announced the signing of a key distribution agreement with European telecommunications specialists, Tetra Communications. The Athens-based distributor holds strong relationships with leading Government and military organisations in Greece. Under this agreement, Tetra Communications will market Thuraya’s voice and broadband data services in Greece and surrounding NATO countries.

“Our consumers in the Government and Military sectors face mission-critical decisions every day. They demand communication solutions that are mobile, secure, reliable and robust. Through our partnership with Tetra Communications, Thuraya is well-positioned to meet their needs with leading-edge products like the world’s most rugged handset, Thuraya XT and the smallest data terminal Thuraya IP,” said Thuraya’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Samer Halawi.

Mr. George Strouzakis Executive Vice President from Tetra Communications added, “Thuraya’s portfolio of data and voice products will uniquely attract a lot of market attention due to their superior design and functionality. Additionally, the robust network upon which Thuraya’s services are based delivers the most reliable service on land and at sea, which is what our customers look for.”

Thuraya IP is the world’s smallest satellite broadband solution making it suitable for government and military units. It is the size of a notebook, making it highly portable. An easily deployable plug and play system that requires no additional software, it supports data speeds of 384Kbps streaming IP and 444 Kbps StandardIP.

The Thuraya XT is splash water resistant and shockproof meeting IP54 and IK03 standards. It is the only satellite handheld to have GPS way-finding functionality and reliable “walk-and-talk” capability making it highly suitable for military and government operatives deployed in the field.

Thuraya’s superior technology enables a congestion-free satellite network covering 140 countries across strategic geographies in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia and Australia, to support these industry-leading products.
