The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) recently signed a contract with the Canadian Zenon Environment Company to execute a large-scale research and development project for underground water exploration. In collaboration with Boston University, SEWA and Zenon will use space imaging and remote sensing for water recovery, reported Gulf News.
The three-year research project will be performed by the Boston University Center for Remote Sensing in cooperation with the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority. The project will include training of United Arab Emirate (UAE) nationals in remote sensing techniques, geographic information system methodologies, and the interpretation of satellite images, reported a Boston University news release.
The two firms will also work together on the development of seawater treatment, wastewater and water recycling to maximize the productivity of their reverse osmosis (RO) plants and increase their production capacity, confirmed a SEWA statement. SEWA intends on using Zenon’s membrane system technology for maintaining its water resources and optimizing its environmental protection capabilities.
Founded in 1980, Zenon launched its first operations in the UAE in 1994 with the construction of the Kalba desalination plant for SEWA, comprising 19 unit containers. Zenon has also worked on similar projects in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. — (menareport.com)
