ALBAWABA – xAI, the American startup company working in the area of artificial intelligence (AI) and founded by Elon Musk in 2023, announced yesterday that the new version of Grok-2 chatbot is available for free for all X social media platforms users.

xAI stated that the new Grok-2 chatbot, the AI assistant with advanced capabilities in both text and vision understanding, integrating real-time information from the X platform, will be available for free for X users (formerly Twitter).

Previously, the company announced in August 2024 that the new chatbot would be available only for Premium and Premium+ X users. However, yesterday the company announced that the chatbot is now available to all users for free.
“Grok is now free for everyone. Our AI assistant is faster, sharper, and includes all new-image generation. Available for free on X today. As always, Premium and Premium+ users get higher usage limits and will be the first to access any new capabilities in the future," the company stated in a blog announcement.
Grok-2 chatbot competing with major AI tools
The new chatbot is competing with major AI tools and tech companies in the market, including ChatGPT by OpenAI, Gemini by Google, Perplexity, Copilot by Microsoft, and Claude by Anthropic.
Subscription prices and features vary across these tools. ChatGPT offers two subscription plans ranging from $20 to $200 per month, while Google’s Gemini has plans priced at $20 and $54 per month.
Perplexity’s subscription also costs $20 per month, as does Microsoft Copilot. Additionally, Claude by Anthropic offers a subscription priced at $20 per month.
