As an innovative way to confront "illegitimate migration" and raise awareness about its dangers, Egypt decided to produce a number of social radio series to settle the problems and burdens that confront migrants.
The first series is entitled “Where are you going Salama”. It tells the story of a young Egyptian man “Salama” who decides to migrate "illegally". The series sheds lights on the struggle and dangers of his trip, in addition to the exploitation of traffickers.
Ambassador Nayla Jabr, the head of the National Coordinating Committee on Preventing and Combating Illegal Migration, said amid the drama momentum seen during Ramadan, the committee has relied on the broadcast drama through “Where are you going Salama” series to create awareness among youth and their families in the rural areas.
She noted that the committee has been keen to provide a clear image and comprehensible language to highlight the problems and difficulties faced by migrants.
She also asserted that the committee uses all possible measures to deliver its message to all social categories, especially the young generation, in order to awaken them and warn against the dangers of "illegal migration".
Jabr said the series aims to present clear image on the manipulation of youths who seek a better life and run to fulfill their dreams. The ambassador believes the series will contribute to enlightening the young generation on the failures and problems they may face for choosing "illegitimate measures".
She asserted that after Ramadan, the committee intends to broadcast the series in symposiums and meetings organized by the ministry of youth and sports as part of its efforts in raising awareness on the dangers of "illegal migration".
The second series is entitled “the way to safety”. It sheds light on the importance of seeking accurate information on the safe ways of travel, and seeks to raise awareness on death traffickers and mafias that lead the "illegal migration", along with their connections with terrorism, drug and arms traffickers. It also highlights the illusions that lure the youths to failure and dangers.
This series comes as part of an important national campaign launched by the ministry of immigration to raise awareness on "illegal migration".
Minister of Immigration Nabila Makram revealed that this campaign relies on all media outlets in spreading its goals, including social media like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, given that they are attractive for youth.
