Late Thursday evening in Downtown Amman, Jordanian police officers arrested a man accused of breaking into a young expatriate woman’s apartment and robbing her and her friend at knife point.
The suspect, age 20, is one of three men who broke into the young woman’s Weibdeh flat on Wednesday evening, tied up her friend, and threatened to kill them both at knifepoint. After spending nearly four hours searching the apartment while holding the expats hostage, the thieves soon realized there were no valuables to be found.
As this unlucky realization sunk in, one of the suspects dragged the woman to two ATMs in Weibdeh, and forced her to withdraw 900 JOD ($1,270) while holding her friend hostage, bound and gagged inside the apartment.
Police began an extensive search for the suspects, using CCTV footage to identify the man who brought her to the ATMs.
However no arrests were made until the ring leader, perhaps plagued by guilt, contacted the woman. According to the victim, he arranged to meet her at the Roman Amphitheater in downtown Amman to return her stolen camera, which contained photos of her late father.
The police organized a sting operation and arrested the man upon presenting himself to the young woman shortly after 9:30 PM Thursday evening.
However, in a surprising twist, the young woman took justice into her own hands, delivering punches and kicks to the suspect. Spectators gathered to watch her revenge.
The two other suspects have since been arrested.
