After Lebanese legend Melhem Barakat allegedly received threats and a lawsuit from Najwa Karam's brother, all parties involved closed their cell phones, refusing to making any public remark on the matter.
According to Sayidaty.net, sources close to Najwa revealed that Melhem had borrowed close to half a million US dollars from her during a tour he held in the United States of America two years ago. At the time, Najwa had informed Melhem that she invests her money in real estate in the US because it is a very profitable venture, an idea that interested the depressed man and led him to borrow some cash from her to do the same.
Melhem had promised to repay his fellow musician upon their return to Beirut, but still has yet to do so, despite her requests.
Sources added that since then, Melhem has added insult to injury by spreading insinuating rumors that there is a romantic affair between him and the single songstress that may lead to marriage, but Najwa refused to respond to the allegations. She's got a reputation to uphold after all!
Due to Melhem's refusal to repay Najwa, her brother went to his home and demanded that he give her back the money and stressed he will take the matter to court. Only problem is...there are no legal docs proving Milhim ever borrowed the dough. The only other person who knew about the whole ordeal was Milhim's wife who was with him at the time when he took the money from Najwa.
This is all in addition to the hurt feelings that Melhem didn't pay condolences to a grieving Najwa after her father's death. Do we now know the reason?
