Arab Idol winner Mohammed Assaf will play a free concert on an Abu Dhabi beach as part of the Yasalam festival in November.
Assaf, a Palestinian who has stolen the hearts of the Arab world, will play on Friday November 1, along with US pop singer Ciara.
Emirati multi-instrumentalist and Arab Idol runner-up Shamma Hamdan will make her first appearance at the free concert. Other Yasalam concerts will take place over three nights on Abu Dhabi Corniche. Organiser Flash Entertainment also announced a free Filipino night on Thursday October 31, when Gary Valenciano will team up with Vina Morales for a major Pinoy party.
The shows are part of the wider Yasalam festival, thrown each year to celebrate the Formula 1 racing taking place on Yas Island. Shows for Formula 1 ticket holders will also be held at the du Arena. That line-up includes Jay-Z, Muse, Depeche Mode, Hussain Al Jassmi and Amr Diab.
Other acts that will perform at the beach concerts include Jay Wud, Beat Antenna, Chronicles of Khan and Bull Funk Zoo. Flash also announced a Yasalam free fitness programme called ‘Get Driver Fit’, which is sponsored by Daman Insurance and will run from September 15 to November 3.
Free one-hour fitness classes will be offered on Abu Dhabi Corniche and at Yas Marina Circuit. The beach exercise sessions will include yoga, zumba and pilates at Corniche Gate 4. The Yas Marina Circuit workouts will consist of running and cycling. There will also be workouts just for women. Fans of all sports will not miss out as there’s free introductory classes around the city for everything from sailing to table tennis.
