It's simple for someone to believe that what they eat and put into their bodies has no effect on what's on their outer appearance, but this is not the case. It is important to understand that the foods you choose to eat will have a great impact on your skin.

Hearing that may make some people unhappy, but it may have the opposite effect on others, as it shows you can help your skin become healthier if you eat the right foods. Here is a list of some of the things you can consume for healthier skin:

1- Water

Whether you have healthy skin in mind or not, it is critical to drink enough water every day and stay hydrated. 

Drinking too little water may result in dry skin, but drinking too much water is also bad for you, so moderation is crucial. Some studies even show that consuming the proper amount of water has a good impact on normal skin physiology.

According to research, eating dark chocolate, which works as an antioxidant for your skin, gives it a smoother texture, less skin redness when exposed to the sun, prevents premature aging, and prolongs skin hydration. Flavonoids in chocolate can help reflect harmful UV rays off your skin, prevent sunburn, and skin conditions like skin cancer, and also help with skin discoloration.

In short, don't feel like you need to hold back on eating dark chocolate.

3- Tomatoes

Tomatoes may not be your favorite fruit, but they are very good for the body, and the one body part that specifically benefits from tomatoes is the skin. Tomatoes are rich in carotenoids, which makes them an excellent food for maintaining healthy skin.

And if you happen to have acne, tomatoes can also help with that as they are full of vitamins A and C, which are common antioxidants that fight inflammation causing acne.

Strawberries, these sweet berries aren't just sweet in taste, but they also have some pretty sweet effects, especially on the skin. 

Being rich in vitamin C and Alpha Lipoic Acid, strawberries have the ability to protect your skin from free radicals. Besides being a natural hydrating agent, it also helps brighten the skin for a more vibrant and radiant complexion, it soothes puffy eyes, and delays signs of aging.

Broccoli is full of many vitamins and minerals that are important for skin health, including zinc, and vitamins A, and C.

Lutein, a carotenoid with properties similar to beta carotene, is also present in broccoli. By shielding against oxidative harm, Lutein helps in preventing dryness and wrinkling of the skin.

In addition, broccoli florets contain sulforaphane, a unique compound that can offer several health benefits, such as protection from any damage caused by the sun, and anti-cancer properties. Research suggests that sulforaphane may also protect against certain types of skin cancer.

Sulforaphane exhibited promising results in laboratory experiments, where it decreased the number of skin cells that succumbed to UV light by almost 29%. Additionally, the shielding effect of sulforaphane persisted for up to 48 hours.
