At least 25 rebels were killed after Daesh (ISIS) attacked a rebel stronghold in the Aleppo province overnight, AFP reported Tuesday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the clashes took place in Marea, a significant rebel bastion sitting on a road that links Aleppo to the Turkish border

The monitor said the fighting also killed eight Daesh militants, "including four suicide bombers who blew themselves up with explosive belts."

Mamun al-Khatib, director of Aleppo-based activist network Shahba, said Daesh infiltrated the town and fired on civilians in a Facebook post.

The fighting follows a Daesh attack on the village of Umm Housh, also in the Aleppo province, on Sunday that killed 37 rebels and ten Daesh militants, the Observatory said.
