The Government Technology Summit & Exhibition (2nd GT Summit – Middle East), inaugurated last Monday in GW Marriot, Dubai, winds up today -Wednesday- under the patronage of H.E. Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri Minister of Development for Government Sector.
On the inaugural session of the summit, Al Mansouri, in his speech expressed his support to 2nd Government Technology Summit & Exhibition. Noting that is of great importance for the development of government sector which plays a pivotal role on the track towards growth. “In other words, development of government sector is a key component of the general strategy supervised by our leadership H. H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nhayan President of UAE and H.H. Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minster and Ruler of Dubai, aims at leading the government sector into a new dimension that competes with the international standards and keep up with the economic growth. Bin Obood, on behalf of H.E. AlMansouri went on indicating the pride of the Ministry of Government Sector Development for having contributed technically and practically to the efforts exerted to establish E-Governance systems and applications in The UAE that count, regionally and internationally amongst the best.    
 “IT constitutes a vital element for reaching the unprecedented standards of excellence and prosperity. Pursuant with this fact, the government sector must retain an advanced position in this progression to keep up with vibrant changes taking place overnight”, announced Dr. Bin Abood.
 Ending Al- Mansouri’s speech, Bin Abood said, “that UAE leadership’s vision extends beyond mere technological innovation. We aim at establishing an e-environment to help us finalize and achieve world-class UAE e-Government with cutting edge ICT technology. This objective complements our drive to achieve government of excellence, and enhances our efforts.
Managing Director of World Development Forum, Khaled Eid, asserted that Digital divide is one of the main barriers preventing the Arab World to move faster towards the knowledge economy; explaining that this divide can be bridged by improving 5 key areas PC penetration, IT infrastructure, Training, Digital Content and e- Services

We are now in discussion with regional originations and governments who are supporting us in many ways of introducing the first "Arab Affordable Lap Top " we are aiming for 2 communities who will create our future Students at all levels & Teachers / educators at all levels. Our initial study showed that we can develop the laptop at the cost of 200$ to 270$ and will be offered at cost to those 2 communities in the Arab World

On his part, Dr Abdul Rahman Sabry, Minister Plenipotentiary of Communications and Information Technology, League of Arab States, emphasized the importance of executing the 19 projects approved by the United Nations in the Decree No 214 during the Amman Summit recently. Dr. Abdul Rahman Sabry announced also that the Arab Strategy for IT& Communication Community Document has been approved; and the content of the Document had been crystallize into applicable projects and work plans.
In addition, Dr Sabry referred to the success achieved by the League of Arab States in marketing the 19 projects of the Arab Strategy and in winning the acceptance of International Federation for Communications to fund some of these projects such Using the Arabic Alphabet for names of internet zones, Arabization of IT& Communications Terminology, besides the project of Establishing the Digital Memory of the Arab World including history, culture and other horizons of related knowledge.
The second Government Technology Summit discussed the profoundly exigent issues of technological exploitation in the governmental sectors, including switching from electronic governments to information governments, restructuring of future cities intelligent information, prosperous management of information technology in the government sector.
