ALBAWABA- Senior Hamas officials narrowly escaped an Israeli assassination attempt in the Qatari capital Doha, according to a senior Hamas source who spoke to Al Jazeera.

The delegation, led by Dr. Khalil al-Hayya, was meeting to discuss U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest proposal when Israeli airstrikes targeted their headquarters.

The Israeli military confirmed it carried out the operation, code-named “Peak of Fire,” claiming to have struck Hamas leaders, including Khalil al-Hayya and Zaher Jabarin, and said it was awaiting final results.

A senior Israeli official revealed that 10 aircraft took part in the strike on Doha and dropped 12 munitions on the place. The same source reported that the United States was informed in advance and provided full support for the strike. Reports of explosions were confirmed in Doha shortly after the attack.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry strongly condemned what it described as a “cowardly Israeli attack” on residential headquarters belonging to Hamas’s political bureau members.

In a statement, Doha strongly condemned the Israeli strike in Doha, calling it a “cowardly criminal assault” that targeted residential buildings housing members of Hamas’s Political Bureau.

The ministry said the attack constituted a flagrant violation of international law and posed a serious threat to the security of both Qatari citizens and foreign residents.

Qatar confirmed that its security forces, civil defense, and relevant authorities immediately took action to contain the incident and ensure the safety of residents in the area.

The statement stressed that Doha would not tolerate Israel’s “reckless behavior” or any attempt to undermine Qatar’s sovereignty and regional stability. High-level investigations are ongoing, and further details will be announced once available.

Despite the attack, Hamas confirmed that its leadership delegation survived, describing the failed assassination as evidence of Israel’s “criminal aggression.”
