Egyptian police have arrested two men for allegedly trying to sell human body parts, including testicles and a tongue, to police disguised as quacks professing that the body parts can be used to cure illnesses via black magic.
The suspects were arrested as they were trying to sell a pair of testicles and a tongue to the undercover police, the Middle East Times said, citing reports by the local press.
Ahmed Al Shinawy, police officer, was quoted by the Cairo-based Al Ahram as saying that “the perception that body parts can be used to cure people's ailments is ridiculous. It is illegal and society is being greatly misled if they believe body parts can cure them."
The police, according to the weekly, believe the trade in body parts is rife and has been going on for years. A general assistant from the mortuary and a contractor’s employee allegedly sold the body parts to undercover policemen.
However, the would-be dealers would have had a hard time claiming that the testicles were fresh.
Superintendent Gamal Abdel Kader said, "The breakthrough came after the two undercover policemen received information about the two men who were apparently selling body parts from corpses which they had been cutting up.” – Albawaba.com
