Iran celebrates "Sacred Defense" week; unveils new radar, drone

Iran has unveiled a new home-made radar system named “Fath 2” and a new drone dubbed "Sadeq 1" during a military parade for the occasion of the "Sacred defense" week on Sept. 22.

Fath 2 is a long-range radar system equipped with hi-tech, capable of tracing all types of aircraft and small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Iran’s Fars news agency reported.

The Sadeq 1 drone flies at a maximum altitude of 25,000 feet at speeds above sonic boom. The home-made UAV has been manufactured for testing radar and electronic systems and training assessments.

Each year, from the 1980's, the anniversary of the Iraq-Iran conflict is marked as the "Sacred Defense" week in the country.

Typical units of Iranian Army as well as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) participated at the parade which took place in front of the mausoleum of the past Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Iran’s president Hassan Rouhani as well as Iran's military officials, military attaches of foreign missions in Iran, and prominent public figures attended the event. The latest military and defense achievements made by Iranian experts were put on display at the parade.
