Iraq's Kurdish capital, Kirkuk, was hit by a series of attacks on its police headquarters on Sunday after a suicide bomber and a gunmen left at least 30 dead, AFP reported.
The city has seen a wave of bombings recently following escalating tensions between the regional government and Baghdad. Two weeks ago the Kurdish Democratic Party offices were targeted, leaving ten dead and up to 100 injured.
No group has yet come forward to claim responsibility for the most recent attacks although militants were reportedly attempting to seize control of the police HQ. According to local media reports, the attackers were dressed in police uniforms and rushed the building after the suicide bomb went off.
The Northern Kurdish area of Iraq has come under increasing pressure from the central Baghdad government over rights to oil fields found in the region.
