ALBAWABA- The leaders of Israel's coalition government issued a stark warning, stating that any attempt to declare Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu incapable of performing his duties would be considered a “coup.”
This comes amid rising tensions as Netanyahu faces accusations of leaking classified information and obstructing progress on hostage negotiations in Gaza.
Israeli media have reported that Netanyahu and four of his aides, including office spokesperson Eliezer Feldstein, are under scrutiny for allegedly leaking sensitive details about Gaza operations to international outlets.
These leaks reportedly contained manipulated information that aligned with Netanyahu’s stance on stalling negotiations, sparking an investigation after concerns emerged that such disclosures might undermine national security and impede the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
Adding to the controversy, recent publications in international media circulated claims that were consistent with Netanyahu's public messaging on the hostage crisis. Investigations suggest these stories might have been influenced by classified materials obtained from Israeli intelligence.
The allegations have led to five arrests and shaken public confidence, with some questioning if Netanyahu’s decisions are aimed at prolonging military engagement to delay accountability for the intelligence and security lapses of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack.
This crisis has brought internal divisions to a head, as Netanyahu’s coalition faces mounting pressure both domestically and internationally to reach a ceasefire and secure the hostages’ release.
Meanwhile, his stance on Gaza operations and recent policy demands, such as maintaining Israeli forces on the Gaza-Egypt border, has reportedly stalled negotiation efforts, frustrating parts of Israel's security establishment.
Netanyahu, however, denies responsibility for the leaks, reiterating his commitment to national security and dismissing calls for his removal as politically motivated.
The situation remains tense, as Israel’s coalition government braces for potential fallout from what it sees as an unprecedented political and national security challenge.
