OKKU, the newly opened contemporary Japanese Restaurant and Lounge at the Monarch Dubai hotel, takes home Best Restaurant in Dubai 2009 at the Best in Dubai Timeout Awards, where winners were selected by an open vote and reflect the public opinion of the finer side of Dubai life.

“After only 12 weeks from soft-opening we are absolutely thrilled to have won the Best in Dubai award.  It is a testament that we have created a concept liked by the people of Dubai. We are thankful to the hard work our staff has put in to ensure the best in food, service and atmosphere—without them it would not have been possible. We also want to thank our loyal customers, as we couldn’t have done it without their support,” said Markus Thesleff, Co-Founder, OKKU Restaurant and Lounge.

The Best in Dubai Timeout Awards were created to give residents and visitors alike the opportunity to vote for their favorite spots around this most vibrant of cities. The winners were chosen solely by the public through an online voting system where many thousands of people voted in various categories that included; Best Restaurant, Best Hotel, Best Bar, and Best Nightclub.

OKKU Restaurant and Lounge, which only opened in February in the mutli-award winning Monarch Dubai hotel – offers a "New style" of contemporary Japanese cuisine. Founders, Markus Thesleff and Ramzy Abdul-Majeed, pulled together one of the top international management and kitchen teams in the business today – relocating them from some of the top culinary metropolises from around the world to be part of the Okku vision.

“We are very proud to have won this award and are thankful to all the support we have received. We are looking to ensure our position is maintained by constantly working to deliver above expectations” said Ramzy Abdul-Majeed, Co-Founder of OKKU Restaurant and Lounge.
