samsung spinpoint t166-hd501lj...awarded best storage product of 2007
Samsung Electronics, the world leader in advanced technology, announced today that its 500GB SpinPoint T166-HD501LJ hard disk has been awarded “Best Storage product 2007” courtesy of Computer Shopper magazine, the UK’s biggest technology magazine. Samsung’s hard disk was qualified as best choice for the storage of programs, movies, music, photos and documents.
“We are very proud to receive this award. Samsung has been always known for its premium quality of internal hard disks, the continued hard work and commitment it has constantly delivered to its customers,” said Raj Samuel, Sales & Marketing Manager, IF Div., Samsung Gulf Electronics. “The award confirms Samsung’s leadership in providing reliable and efficient storage solutions to business users”.
The award winning hard disk uses the latest SATA 300 interface, so if the PC doesn’t have a SATA connector on its motherboard then the consumer has to invest in a SATA PCI card. This is a worthwhile investment since PATA- SATA’s slower predecessor- is slowly being phased out by motherboard and hard disk manufacturers. The SpinPoint will still work at the same speeds when plugged into a slower SATA 10 connector, so there’s no need to upgrade if the motherboard already has spare connectors of this type.
Samsung SpinPoint T166-HD501LJ costs just 29 cents per gigabyte, yet it’s the fastest internal 7.200rpm SATA hard disk ever tested. It topped all Computer Shopper magazines’ tests, reading large files at 79.8MB/s and writing them at 76.5MB/s. It read small files at 28.3MB/s and wrote them at 12MB/s.
Since the SpinPoint uses thin and flexible SATA cables, it’s easier to install than a disk that uses the thicker and bulkier PATA cables. External hard disks are even easier to install and eSATA external disks are as fast, but none is as cheap as the Samsung T166-HD501LJ.
Samsung’s SpinPoint T166-501LJ is the fastest internal 7,200rpm 3 ½ in SATA hard disk. Internal hard disks may not be as glamorous as Blu-ray or HD DVD writers, but they are far more affordable and useful.
