The Western Region Municipality has sponsored eleven students from the Madinat Zayed Higher Colleges of Technology in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi to participate in the ‘International Workplace Programme’ in the United Kingdom during July and August 2008. The students were elected based on several criteria based on talent, ambition and academic performance.
“The Municipality is delighted to sponsor these students, and this type of initiative provides an ideal opportunity for students to intensively study English in a real-world setting and prepares them for their future performance in the workplace,” said Hamoud Humaid AL Mansouri, General Manager – Western Region Municipality. “We hope this kind of supplementary training will enable students to contribute positively to the Western Region’s growing economy and industry,” he added.
Participating students will receive four weeks of intensive English instruction at Eurocenters’s Lee Green London Campus, a worldwide network that creates personalized and innovative methods of teaching languages well and provides high standard courses and well-equipped quality schools. These selected students will complete their courses along with all necessary curriculum or tutorials in advance of beginning their four week work placement with selected notable London businesses.
The courses and program designed for this student group by Eurocenters will allow the students to gain a more thorough understanding of British culture while providing them with the opportunity to use English language within the context of their assigned work place and everyday activities.
The Western Region Municipality with a local focus believes in empowering and investing in the next generation of the region’s competent students who want to broaden there skills through taking advantage of the many initiatives that the Municipality has developed for the advancement of its’ nationals it serves.
Furthermore, the program will provide these students valuable and practical
experience which will help them to achieve numerous and diverse potential opportunities that exist in the development of the Western Region.

The Municipal office located in Madinat Zayed, west of Abu Dhabi city, was established in May 2006 under H.H Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed AL Nahyan. Under the umbrella of the newly formed Department of Municipal Affairs, the Western Region Municipality offers services to Madinat Zayed, Mirfa, Liwa, Sila, Ghayathi and Dalma.

This plan outlines the commitment to service and sustain the future economic and urban development of the region, while outsourcing and encouraging public and private partnerships in tandem with developing the municipality’s national workforce.
