In a statement, the Ministry of Culture and Sports said that Lekhwiya Club has submitted an application to the Ministry in order to take the necessary measures to register and announce a new statute for Lekhwiya Sports Club, including, according to the club's application, amending its name to Al Duhail Sports Club.
Lekhwiya Club has also demanded the formation of a general assembly to initiate powers and competencies stipulated in the law governing the organization of sports clubs so that the club will become a sports club with a new statute like other clubs, and operate under the name of the new club and its logo from the next sport season as stated in the said application.
The statement said that the procedures for merging Al Jaish Sports Club into Al Duhail Sports Club have been registered at the Ministry of Culture and Sports. The merger is at the request of the Lekhwiya club and the approval of Al Jaish club and in accordance with two letters sent by the said clubs in this regard.
According to the statement and the letters by the two clubs, the merger will take effect from the next sports season, with a committee to be set up in order complete and supervise the merger. The committee will be composed of representatives of the two clubs, the parties concerned and the president of the Qatar Players Association. The committee will be chaired by the president of the Qatar Football Association.
